Now in our 14th year of providing the UK’s most efficient, high quality, aerial filming. Meet the team that makes it happen!
Mike Smith Founder
When Mike created FTV, he wanted to bring in a new and efficient way of delivering the most breathtaking aerial footage, for the best price. By working carefully with the UK aviation authorities, he helped to rewrite the the rule book on access and new technology.
Particularly in the area of live TV coverage, Mike left an extraordinary legacy. Flying TV also continues to thrive, to grow with all his principles and guidelines in place.
Monica Wyer Aerial DOP and Operations Manager
Monica has over 20 years experience as a television camera operator, joining the Flying TV team in 2004. She has been instrumental in developing the aerial filming technologies which continue to keep Flying TV ahead of the game.
As an aerial DOP, Monica shoots the most beautiful aerials you will see on television. As Flying TV’s Operations Manager, she will guide you through the process, from initial enquiry to the delivery of your rushes. Monica is also a helicopter and fixed wing pilot.
Richard Stevenson Aerial DOP
Richard has been involved with FlyingTV since day one. A BBC trained lighting camera operator, with experience on shows from Howards Way to Blue Peter, he has more than 20 years experience in the TV industry.
His ability to get the most out of equipment and to build relationships are valuable to Flying TV. So much of our work is team work, alongside creative partners. Richard encourages ideas and makes them happen, giving everyone involved satisfaction, including our client’s viewers.
Sarah Greene Managing Director
“In September 2003, Mike and I were at the Robinson Factory watching G-PIXX being built, our first Flying TV helicopter. Mike asked me if I thought anything was missing. I felt we needed an extra camera, inside the cockpit positioned centrally and high, at the rear facing forward.
This is the camera a presenter can look back at, whilst showing the viewer what’s ahead. Mike agreed and always called it the ‘Sashy Cam’ – ‘Sashy’ being our Godchildren’s nickname for me. Appropriate really, because I see this as my main job, looking ahead… also listening, making sure Flying TV evolves and grows as Mike intended”.
Our Pilots Aerial Filming Specialists
Flying TV’s pilots all have the highest commercial credentials, each with several thousand hours of flying experience.
Alongside their flying skills, our pilots are trained instructors, good communicators and highly experienced in aerial filming. They are there to be your partners in the air, help ensure your filming objectives are met in a safe, timely, yet creative way.
Our Base Denham Aerodrome
Although we can be anywhere in the UK or northern Europe within hours, our base is the closest private airfield to central London. An oasis of focused peace on the edge of the Chilterns but inside the M25.
A perfect base, Denham has easy transport connections to anywhere in the UK and is half an hour by road from the West End, minutes by air. In 2011, we designed and built our new headquarters. A facility dedicated to aerial filming and dynamic cameras, everything you need under one roof.
